Chhattisgarh’s Chausela Recipe: Easy And Wholesome

Welcome to the land of Chhattisgarh, where every dish is a celebration of flavors and traditions. Today, we bring you the famous Chausela recipe, a wholesome and easy dish loved by all.

Slide into the kitchen and let's get started. First, mix 1 cup of rice flour with 1/2 cup of wheat flour. Add a pinch of salt and 1 tsp of cumin seeds. Slowly pour in water and knead the dough until it's soft and pliable.

Roll out the dough into thin circles and cook them on a hot griddle until they puff up. Flip and cook for a few more seconds. These are the Chausela rotis, the base of our dish.

Now, let's prepare the filling. In a pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil and add 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, and 1 chopped green chili. Saute until the onions turn translucent.

Add 1 cup of boiled and mashed potatoes, 1/2 cup of boiled peas, and 1 tsp of turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. This is our flavorful and nutritious filling.

Place a Chausela roti on a plate and spread a generous amount of the filling on one half. Fold the other half over and press the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining rotis and filling.

Now, let's make the Chausela gravy. In a pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil and add 1 tsp of cumin seeds, 1 tsp of mustard seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida. Once they splutter, add 1 chopped onion and saute until golden brown.

Add 1 chopped tomato, 1 tsp of red chili powder, 1 tsp of coriander powder, and 1 tsp of garam masala. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the spices are fragrant.

Pour in 1 cup of water and let the gravy simmer for 5 minutes. Add the Chausela rolls to the gravy and let them soak up the flavors for a few minutes.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot. The crispy Chausela rotis, the flavorful filling, and the spicy gravy make for a perfect combination. Enjoy this easy and wholesome dish from Chhattisgarh with your loved ones.
